Digital Storyetelling Project Intro

My DST project is a "how-to" video that teaches students to create a stop motion video. A stop motion video is a series of pictures that are sped up to look like a video. When I teach my students about stop motion video I show them this video. Tony vs. Paul This video usually gets the students creative juices flowing, it also shows them the endless possibilities of stop motion videos. For this project the students will need a digital camera and access to a computer with MovieMaker installed. This video can be used in a digital photography, digital media, or video communications class.

  1. "Tony vs. Paul" is quite a production!! Wow! Do your students create videos of this magnitude? How many photos does a students have to take to make a video like this? Thanks for sharing. If I tried this project, I would definitely employ the mantra, "start small."

  2. I make each group do a minimum of 150-200 pictures which usually covers about 30-45 seconds of video. I usually have 1 or 2 groups who are inspired by "Tony vs. Paul" and they will do videos with 1000 pictures or more.

  3. Cliff, I thought the "stop movie" idea was great. It seems like something high school students would really "buy in" to. I think your video was amazing to watch and while making the audience feel like they can actually do it. Your instructions were very thorough and steps to making the stop movie were helpful.
